In this work, Abraham Geovanni employs a restrained yet resonant visual language to articulate a theological meditation on divine sovereignty. Composed through a commanding interplay of line, circle, square, and triangle, the painting belongs to a long tradition within modern and postwar abstraction in which geometry functions not merely as form, but as a vessel for metaphysical meaning. Here, however, Geovanni’s symbols are not detached exercises in abstraction; they are profoundly devotional, giving visual structure to the nature of God as eternal, omnipotent, and self-existent.
The line, cutting decisively through the composition, may be understood as the timeline of existence: the measure of created time, history, and human experience. It is both trajectory and order, suggesting the unfolding of all things within divine authorship. At its base, the circle signifies God’s being; His eternity, wholeness, and boundless power. Without beginning or end, the circle has long served in the history of sacred and philosophical symbolism as an image of the infinite; here it becomes an emblem of God’s everlasting presence. The square, positioned centrally, represents the Creator of time, space, and realms. Its solidity and stability evoke structure, order, and foundation, suggesting the One through whom all dimensions of existence are framed and sustained. Above it, the triangle becomes a potent symbol of the Trinity; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; while also conveying divine excellency, majesty, and supreme power. Its elevated placement lends the composition an ascending spiritual force, directing the eye upward toward transcendence.
Most compelling is the unity of these forms along the line, which suggests God as the ultimate Creator: perfectly integrated, wholly sufficient, and sovereign over all. The composition therefore reads not as a collection of isolated symbols, but as a unified declaration of divine perfection; God as the One who holds eternity, creation, power, and order within Himself. In this sense, the work finds its clearest theological anchor in Exodus 3:14: “I Am Who I Am.” The painting becomes an abstract profession of that sacred truth: that God is self-existent, indivisible, and able to do all in all.
Geovanni’s use of black against an open white ground intensifies the clarity of this vision. Stripped of distraction, the forms assume a near-iconic authority, allowing the viewer to encounter the work as both image and meditation. The result is a compelling contemporary statement of spiritual abstraction; one that transforms geometry into testimony and presents the divine not as an idea alone, but as an eternal and all-powerful presence.
